NEW SPOT: Governor Cooper Thanks Nurse for Doing “God’s Work” on the Frontlines

Conversation focuses on importance of mask-wearing in curbing the virus’ spread

RALEIGH — Today, Cooper for NC released a new spot, “God’s Work,” which features a video conference conversation between Governor Cooper and Stephanie Whitley, a nurse from Johnston County who has been working on the frontlines during the pandemic.

Governor Cooper has emphasized the importance of wearing a mask to protect oneself and others from the virus and to help curb its spread. He’s also noted, “Not only is wearing a mask the decent, neighborly thing to do, it’s the best way to boost our economy.”

Lt. Governor Dan Forest, on the other hand, has falsely claimed, “Masks do not work with viruses.” He recently explained his approach to campaigning during the pandemic, “We shake as many hands as we can.”

Liz Doherty, Cooper for NC spokesperson, said, “Medical professionals like Stephanie are standing on the frontlines to protect us everyday and we are so grateful. But we all have a role in protecting each other. Wearing a mask is an easy and effective way to do that.”

TRANSCRIPT:

[Governor Cooper]: What would you want to say to the people of North Carolina about coronavirus?

[Stephanie Whitley]: That it is not a hoax. That they need to start taking it for real.

If I can wear goggles and a face shield along with a mask forty hours a week, they can wear the little mask thirty minutes when they’re going grocery shopping.

[Governor Cooper]: I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your work on the frontlines.

You’re doing God’s work. No doubt about it.
