Forest Flashbacks: Forest Is *That Guy* In the Group Project…
Does None Of The Work, Takes All Of The Credit
RALEIGH — Forest Flashbacks aims to provide a snapshot of Dan Forest’s week in review. Here are the toplines from this week:
Forest Skips 2 Meetings in 1 Day, Absences Show a Larger, Troubling Trend
- On Thursday, Forest skipped the Senate session and State Board of Education meeting to attend an anti-choice event with VP Pence. These statistics fit into an established, troubling trend, showing Forest’s failure to show up to work.
- As Lt. Governor, he’s missed 45% of State Board of Education meetings, 84% of State Board of Community Colleges meetings, over 75% of Military Affairs Commission meetings, and over ⅓ of Senate sessions.
- In some years – 2014 and during the last few months of 2017 – Forest missed nearly half of Senate sessions. In 2018, he missed over 70% of sessions.
While VP Pence Expanded Medicaid, Forest Refuses to Budge
- As governor of Indiana, VP Pence expanded Medicaid, but Forest continues to oppose Medicaid expansion.
- The pandemic has highlighted the urgent need for health care access. Expanding Medicaid would extend coverage to 600,000 North Carolinians, boost the economy by $4 billion, benefit rural hospitals, and create an estimated 40,000 jobs at no additional cost to the taxpayer.
Salisbury Post Editorial Calls Out Forest for Dangerous Indoor Campaign Rally
- The Salisbury Post editorial board came down hard on Dan Forest for his indoor campaign rally with over 200 people, including Mississippi Governor Reeves.
- The editorial board wrote: “Political candidates like Forest may claim First Amendment exemptions. But the effect of having more than 200 people get together indoors poses the same danger whether it’s for a rally or something else.”
