Roy Cooper Statement on Roe v. Wade Anniversary and Need to Protect Reproductive Rights

RALEIGH, NC – Today, Roy Cooper released the below statement on the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision.

“The Supreme Court held 53 years ago today in Roe v. Wade that women had a constitutional right to reproductive health care and as Governor, I fought to protect that right,” said Roy Cooper. “Meanwhile, Michael Whatley was ‘proud’ when that constitutional right was taken away. As Chairman of the NCGOP, Whatley backed platforms that banned abortion without exceptions. Michele Morrow is ‘unapologetically’ anti-choice and Don Brown supports banning abortion. As Senator, I’ll fight to keep politicians out of the exam room so these decisions can be made between a woman and her doctor.”

Governor Cooper vetoed North Carolina’s dangerous abortion ban and signed executive orders to protect women’s access to reproductive health care.
