Roy Cooper Statement on Anniversary of Affordable Care Act Becoming Law

RALEIGH – Today, Roy Cooper issued the following statement on the 16th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act becoming law:

“Sixteen years ago, the Affordable Care Act became law, giving Americans across the country access to quality, affordable health care. But now, Washington DC Republicans have refused to extend the ACA tax credits, spiking health care costs for millions. Now, more than half of the people who rely on the ACA have or plan to cut back spending on food and household necessities because their health care just costs too much. These attacks on working families have been championed every step of the way by my opponent Michael Whatley and his Washington DC insider buddies – it’s unacceptable and it’s time for a change. In the U.S. Senate, I’m ready to take on insurance companies ripping working families off and work with anyone to make health care more affordable.”

Roy has been laser-focused on lowering health care costs for North Carolinians. In 2023, he assembled a bipartisan coalition to expand Medicaid for hundreds of thousands of working North Carolinians, lowering costs for everyone. More than 720,000 people are now covered because of Medicaid expansion.
Earlier this month, Roy kicked off his statewide Make Stuff Cost Less campaign to highlight how stuff costs too much and share how he’ll fight to lower costs, including health care costs.
