Roy Cooper for North Carolina

Roy Cooper Joins Tobacco Farmers at “Make Stuff Cost Less” Event at a Tobacco Receiving Station in Wilson

RALEIGH – Today, Roy Cooper continued his “Make Stuff Cost Less” tour, holding an event at a tobacco receiving station in Wilson to discuss how he will work in the U.S. Senate to make life more affordable for North Carolina farmers.

“I grew up working on the farm in Eastern North Carolina, cropping tobacco every summer until I went to college,” said Roy Cooper. “Our farmers keep North Carolina moving, but right now, they are struggling while fertilizer, equipment and diesel prices go through the roof. While Washington DC Insider Michael Whatley supports the reckless tariffs and the war that are driving up costs, I’m running because North Carolina farmers deserve a senator who will work with anybody to make life more affordable.”

“My family has been farming the same land for more than a century, but right now, everything we work so hard to produce, including tobacco, is at risk because of what the federal government is doing,” said Wilson County native and farmer Pender Sharp. “Washington DC Insider Michael Whatley champions costly policies at the expense of North Carolina farmers. Roy Cooper is a Nash County native who cares about farmers and will stand up for us in Washington.”

“I am a fourth generation farmer in Reidsville and the father of two incredible young girls,” said Rockingham County and fourth generation farmer John Ashe. “I’ve grown tobacco since 1988, but because of the chaos coming out of Washington DC, times have never been tougher. Every week is a new challenge. Roy Cooper knows we need to make stuff cost less. Roy knows that farmers need stability and support. In the U.S. Senate, I know Roy will work with anyone to deliver for hardworking families and farmers.”

“I am a third generation tobacco farmer and as I look to the future, I worry if I’ll be the last in my family,” said Robeson County and third generation farmer Roger Oxendine. “As a result of the chaos from Washington DC, the cost for our fertilizer, diesel and equipment has skyrocketed. We need change. Roy Cooper is a man who knows farming, rolls up his sleeves and does the work. We need more of that in Washington DC, and that is why I am proud to support Roy Cooper for Senate.”

On the Make Stuff Cost Less tour, Roy released his plans to lower the cost of food and groceries, health care, utilities, child care and housing.
