Today, Roy Cooper issued the following statement ahead of the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene making landfall in North Carolina:
“Two years ago, the most devastating storm in our state’s history tore through Western North Carolina. We still mourn the 108 North Carolinians who lost their lives during Hurricane Helene and keep their loved ones in our thoughts. Over the past two years, it has been inspiring to see our communities band together to help one another rebuild – but we know recovery can never happen fast enough.
“Today, Western North Carolina has still received only about 15% of the federal funding it needs – that’s wrong and we must continue fighting for more. As Senator, I will work with anyone I can to make sure our state’s western communities have the resources they need to continue getting back on their feet.”
