Mt. Airy Councilman Criticizes Dan Forest’s Failure to Wear A Mask, Says He Should “Know Better”

MOUNT AIRY — On Thursday, Mount Airy City Councilman Ron Niland criticized Dan Forest’s failure to follow public health guidelines and said Forest should “know better.” Councilman Niland did not mince words:

“I was disappointed with seeing the pictures in the paper of people standing next to each other, basically hugging and doing all of this, with no social distancing, no masks — no anything.

“Anybody in that position probably should know better, and knows the facts and knows that we’re all at risk and we’re in this together and we can beat it if we work together.”

Councilman Niland added, “This is not a political statement, I don’t care who it was.”

Forest returned to in-person fundraising weeks ago and has held at least sixteen indoor campaign events with no masks or social distancing during the pandemic. Additionally, Forest has falsely claimed that “masks do not work with viruses” and stated “we shake as many hands as we can.”

Niland’s remarks were prompted by Forest’s failure to wear a mask during an Aug. 1 campaign event in Mount Airy:
