  • [Akshat Yadav] introduced Cooper by sharing what the campaign meant to him as a recent graduate facing the rising cost of living. “We’re going to enter the workforce within the next few years, and between the rising costs, the job market, and whatnot, it can seem like hope is lost,” Yadav said in his remarks. “Y’all, we need to do everything we can to get our former Tar Heel in office to make stuff cost less.”
  • Cooper was met with a roaring cheer as he walked into the room, clad in a Carolina blue button-down. “Just walking on this campus, it all comes back,” Cooper, who earned both his bachelor’s and law degree at UNC, said to the students. “I love this place. It will always stay in your heart. I promise you, it will.”

  • Cooper’s connection to public education goes beyond his work in government. His mother was a public-school teacher, which has influenced his views on the importance of educators and public schools.
  • With voter registration deadlines approaching and a competitive midterm election ahead, Roy Cooper’s visit placed an emphasis on the role and importance that college students play in shaping North Carolina’s future.

  • Cooper closed by telling the crowd that his parents left him “a better country” and that this year’s midterm elections will help determine what the next generation inherits.
