- Gov. Cooper: “And look, people say to me, ‘Hey, you’re governor of the whole state, and how do you delicately handle all of these rivalries? I say, ‘I’m Roy Cooper, and I’m a Tar Heel.”
- Gov. Cooper: “Now, I’m also very proud of, I think, what is the best array of public and private universities in the country that we have right here in this state, and the way they work together on research, on economic development, it’s amazing, the great work that goes on, our universities. But when you step on the gridiron or the hardwood, or the diamond, you’re a Carolina fan, and that’s just the way it is.”
