- Former Gov. Roy Cooper met with local tobacco farmers Friday afternoon, Sept. 25, on a campaign stop to hear about the financial burdens they’re facing.
- “Agriculture is still the No. 1 driver of our economy in this state,” Cooper, a Democrat, said at a Wilson County tobacco receiving station. “It creates so many great-paying jobs, but on top of that, North Carolina farmers help to feed the world. I’m grateful for the work they do. I’ve made the basis of my campaign to make stuff cost less, and I have a platform of making stuff cost less that I want to take to Washington. It’s affecting people across the spectrum in North Carolina and across the country. Farmers are no exception.”
- “We know that tariffs are adding to the cost of consumers when they buy products,” Cooper said. “We know that tariffs are affecting what’s happening in the grocery store. We know that equipment costs are through the roof.”
