RALEIGH – During his campaign for the U.S. Senate, Roy Cooper is engaging with students and young people across the state by uplifting their stories on his “Make Stuff Cost Less” tour, attending college homecoming celebrations and standing up for students facing attacks on their voting rights.

- As Cooper took the stage, he said he is not only running for veterans like Morgan and working moms like Alexander, but to support all people across North Carolina.
- Cooper criticized his opponent, Whatley, describing him as too friendly with companies like Duke Energy, which holds a regulated monopoly in North Carolina.
- In a statement to the Old Gold & Black,Cooper said he plans to drive down housing and utility costs for young adults, including recent college graduates.

- “Everything is just so expensive. The cost of living is too high, utilities are too high, child care is too high,” [Cooper] said. “And the people in Washington are doing nothing about it.” Each proclamation was met with resounding “mhms” and other affirming echoes from the crowd of students and faculty.
- “I wouldn’t say we’re out here for Roy, I’d say it’s more of Roy is out here for us,”said Holton. “He is out here trying to make sure we can get our student body involved….we’re trying to get our polling site back and we can’t do that without student participation.”

- Throughout his campaign, Cooper has emphasized his focus on lowering the cost of groceries, making health care affordable and reducing utility costs for consumers. In Durham, he let a few everyday people and the hundreds of audience members do the talking about the importance of lowering costs.
- He shared the stories of everyday people he has met along the campaign trail so far, from a Winston-Salem resident at risk of losing critical health care for her daughter to a military family in Fayetteville struggling with rising grocery costs.
North Carolina Central University, Campus Echo: Former Gov. Roy Cooper visits Durham for Senate campaign, promises affordability
- Campus Echo Staff[NCCU alumna Laura] Whitley said rising tuition costs made staying in college and managing daily expenses difficult. Whitley said she believes Cooper understands the needs of students at NCCU. “I feel like he is for Central students and to better the Central community,” Whitley said.
