ICYMI: Roy Cooper Continues “Make Stuff Cost Less” Tour in Raleigh

Duke Chronicle: Meagan Davis, a Triangle resident and mother of two children, said that Cooper’s promise of affordability was the primary factor in motivating her vote.

RALEIGH – Yesterday, Roy Cooper continued his “Make Stuff Cost Less” tour, holding an event in Raleigh to highlight how he will continue his work in the U.S. Senate to make life more affordable for North Carolina families.

  • Cooper held an event tonight in Wake County, where he was asked about early voting turnout with more than 1 million ballots cast.
  • Roy Cooper: “We have to remember that oftentimes things can change during early voting as we get toward election day, so we got to keep working and getting people out to vote.”

  • The Democratic former governor spoke to about 150 supporters in downtown Raleigh Thursday night as part of his “Make Stuff Cost Less” campaign blitz across the Tar Heel State.
  • That’s one reason Michael Kimsal, a small business owner from Franklin County who attended Thursday’s event, said he’s supporting Cooper.
  • Kimsal, who’s self-employed, is responsible for buying his own health insurance. Last year, he said he paid about $650 per month, in part due to extended subsidies under the Affordable Care Act.
  • But Congress cut out those premium tax credits at the end of 2025. Now, Kimsal’s health insurance is $1,650 each month.
  • “It probably doesn’t seem like much to the insurance companies, but it’s quite a lot for us to absorb,” he said. “It means that that’s $1,000 a month less that’s going to our local community, so eating out less, giving to charities less, going to local events less.”
  • “We want good change. We want positive change,” Kimsal said. “We need a strong leader like Roy Cooper….”

  • Ahead of Cooper’s remarks, community members addressed the crowd and shared their reasons for supporting him. Meagan Davis, a Triangle resident and mother of two children, said that Cooper’s promise of affordability was the primary factor in motivating her vote.
  • The Rev. Siechieh Redd, a Raleigh pastor, said that he has “watched hardworking people struggle under the weight of rising costs and economic uncertainty,” and that political leadership has “become disconnected” from Americans’ needs. However, Redd said, Cooper “understands the challenges we are facing because he’s connected to us.”
