- Roy Cooper: “Paychecks are not keeping up with the cost of living, and we have an administration in Washington now, who said […] cost of living was going to be the day one focus. Not only has that not happened, they made it so much worse.”
- Reporter: “Republican Michael Whatley’s economic platform on his website is much shorter than Cooper’s […] does not offer a comparable list of proposals addressing groceries, health care, childcare or housing. - To address grocery prices, Cooper proposes fighting tariffs, blocking anti-competitive mergers among food companies and prohibiting companies from using algorithms to coordinate prices.
- Cooper’s campaign said he would consider proposals to reduce grocery, utility, housing and child care expenses while being “judicious with taxpayer dollars.” It also pointed to the balanced-budget proposals Cooper submitted to the General Assembly each year as governor and said he would take that experience to Washington as lawmakers confront a national debt approaching $40 trillion.
