RALEIGH — Roy Cooper continued his “Make Stuff Cost Less” tour, holding an event in Smithfield to highlight how he will continue his work in the U.S. Senate to bring down skyrocketing costs and make life more affordable for working North Carolinians.

  • “I knew that I needed to step up, because I love the people of North Carolina,” [Roy] Cooper said. “I love my state, and I know that so many people right now are getting a raw deal from Washington, D. C. insiders.”
  • “He was a long-time lobbyist, lobbying for big oil and utility companies like Duke Energy,” Cooper said of [Michael] Whatley. “And he is the kind of person who is looking after himself and his billionaire buddies and supporting all of these policies that are hurting people, that are making stuff cost more … I’m going to put the people before party. I’m going to put the people before politics.”
  • “I’ve lived in the same house here in Johnston County for years and have watched my rent go up hundreds of dollars per month – and now, just so we can both afford housing, my daughter has chosen to move in with me so we can help each other make ends meet,” [Mary Barbara] Staunton said of her living situation.
  • [Seth] Lee, a ninth-generation Johnston County native, echoed Staunton’s take on the economy, saying “from filling up my 2500 to buying beef for my family, stuff costs too much,” he said. “Roy Cooper sees how everyday Americans like myself are struggling, and he is the proven leader families like mine need in the U.S. Senate.
