RALEIGH, N.C. – Today, Cooper for North Carolina is launching a digital-first video slamming Michael Whatley for twice appointing a convicted child sex predator to leadership positions in the North Carolina Republican Party.
“While Roy spent his career putting rapists and violent criminals behind bars, Michael Whatley spent his appointing a convicted child sex predator who served time in prison for multiple counts of felony child sex crimes to a powerful position within the North Carolina Republican Party,” said Kate Smart, Cooper for North Carolina communications director. “North Carolinians deserve answers from Michael Whatley on why he put a convicted child sex predator ahead of families and children.”
Recent bombshell reporting from WRAL, Asheville Watchdog and the Washington Examiner confirmed that Michael Whatley twice appointed Harvey Lee West to leadership positions within the North Carolina Republican Party after it was known that he was a convicted child sex predator.
Since this story broke, Michael Whatley has provided no explanation and “dodged” questions from reporters asking for his explanation.
The vertical video will be on digital platforms to reach younger North Carolinians and parents who deserve answers from Michael Whatley.
