  • Speaking as part of his “make stuff cost less” tour, Cooper is centering his campaign on reducing everyday expenses, particularly food and medical care, while casting blame on corporate consolidation and federal policy decisions that he argues have driven prices higher.
  • [Roy Cooper]: “I’m running because of families who are frustrated with red tape and foot dragging by Washington, D.C., politicians who have forgotten Western North Carolina has been through a lot already.”

  • John Garcia, owner of Lookout Brewing in Black Mountain, echoed those concerns during the event, saying his home electric bill recently exceeded $400 and his brewery has seen about a $1,300 increase in energy costs.
  • “Politicians in Washington, DC, are failing to deliver relief, and my opponent, Michael Whatley, would only make it worse,” Cooper said. “He spent his career as a Big Oil lobbyist helping energy companies get rich while North Carolinians paid more.”
