Roy Cooper for North Carolina

Statement from Roy Cooper on Washington’s Failure to Prevent Skyrocketing Health Care Premiums for North Carolinians

Nearly 1 Million North Carolinians Will See an Average of Nearly 30% Increase in Health Care Premiums in January

RALEIGH, NC – Today, Roy Cooper released the below statement following the U.S. Senate’s failure to pass an extension to the Affordable Care Act subsidies that make health care affordable for nearly 1 million North Carolinians and are set to expire in January.

“DC politicians may not be used to worrying about how much their health insurance costs, but most folks worry about it every day,” said Roy Cooper. Washington DC’s failure to extend these subsidies to make health care more affordable is unacceptable. We expanded Medicaid to more than 690,000 North Carolinians to lessen that worry and lower health care costs for everyone, and that’s the same type of bipartisan problem solving I’ll bring to the Senate.”

Governor Cooper worked with Democrats and Republicans to expand Medicaid to provide health care to more than 690,000 people and launched a groundbreaking program to relieve more than $6.5 million in medical debt for over 2.5 million people.
